And now what?

Question:

Hello Josh,

I'm interested in law school but I'm still unsure of what type or
lawyer or what I want to major in so do you have any advice on how to
get started in the preparation for law school acceptance or getting
great interships? Thank you for your time and for coming to the
University of Maryland to speak to us, you really opened my eyes to
all the possibilities with being a lawyer.

Answer

Hey! Great to hear from you. Here's my advice: pick a big need.
Chose a challenge; something that bothers you about our world. Girl's
education or climate change or factory farming - just pick something!
After you pick your need, go to idealist.org and network for good and
search away. Find the organizations that are addressing the need and
send them an email stating why you are good for them, with resume
attached. The process is a little annoying, but the payoff is unreal.  - J

Corruption - smash it.

Question:

Hey Josh,

I am a sophomore Government major and I attended your "Connect: Your
Future to Social Change" talk yesterday. I am really interested with
working with organizations that are fighting corruption. During the
talk you mentioned transparency international and open society
institute , are there any others? And you mentioned that you had
contacts in transparency international, I would be really interested
in getting in contact with anyone in that
organization.

Answer:

Take a look at below:

And just click away to find your contacts for TI:

shit out. - J

Save the Planet - legal style. (career series)

Question:

Hey, Mr. Tetrick!

It was a pleasure hearing you speak tonight. I was not given a chance to talk to you, so I decided to take your advice by sending you an e-mail.

I am a freshman majoring in Biology, along with minors in French and Environmental Studies. However, unlike the "traditional" Biology major, I do not plan on going to medical school; instead, I plan on going to law school with a background in science. My career choices are to practice either Environmental or Patent Law.

I was just wondering if you know of any internships that relate to my career choices.

Again, it was nice meeting you and learning of your fantastic experiences.

I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Answer:

You have many options regardless of the path you decide on. If
you focus on our hurting planet, you'll have these awesome
opportunities on the patent and environmental law side:

WRI
Environmental Defense Fund
Earth Justice
Nature Conservancy
Sierra Club
Conservation International

The hundreds of clean energy companies on this list:

http://www.acore.org/membership/member_directory

Law firm practices provide a path for patent for environmental law
through building a clean energy economy. For example:

Make sure you check out Good.is, Network for Good, and Idealist.org, too!

Get back at me if this doesn't make sense. - J
